District of Columbia Lottery

It was a Wednesday on August 25, 1982, that the District of Columbia sold its first ever lottery tickets. What’s really interesting is that all 10 million tickets of the instant game, “Match 3” were sold to people by the lottery agents in just a couple of days. Another 10 million tickets were ordered so that everyone could take part.

The DC Lottery is famed for distributing its profits and benefits among all areas of the state. Since inception, more than $2 billion of profits have been put into the District’s General Fund, from which all other sectors of DC are taken care of, including recreational places, education, safety and security, residencies, and services for both minors and seniors. Benefits also go toward lottery agents, prize winners, and contracts. Around $6,500 is spent on DC lottery advertising.

In DC, players can take part in DC-2, DC-3, DC-4, DC-5, Powerball, Mega Millions, DC Keno, Lucky for Life, DC Fast Play, Races2Riches, and The Lucky One.
