Michigan Lottery
Voters approved the Michigan Lottery on May 16, 1972. The 50-cent green game ticket went on sale a few months later on November 13. Over the years, the Michigan Lottery has created many millionaires, with the very first $1 million prize being won in 1973. With more winners created over the decades, the Classic Lotto 47 has come out tops as the biggest lottery in Michigan.
In fact, this lottery is still a guaranteed millionaire maker, with jackpots starting at $1 million. The first tickets for Lotto 47 went on sale on December 3, 1989, and besides the $1 million jackpot, prizes are awarded for matching 3, 4, and 5 numbers. All you have to do is pick 6 numbers from a range of 1 – 47.
The range of lotteries in this state includes Fantasy 5, Daily 4, and Keno. In 2005, the state started selling Mega Millions tickets, followed by Powerball in 2010.
The Michigan Lottery continues to donate proceeds to education.
