Father and Daughter Win Same Lottery
Arkansas Father and Daughter Both Win Lottery
A father and daughter in Arkansas have both won big in the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. According to a news release by the Lottery, Little Rock resident, Emily Rathbun scooped $19,702 on the AR Progressive Jackpot game. Two months earlier, her father, Jessie Joyner, won the amount of $37,432 on the same game.
Doesn’t often play the lottery
Both father and daughter purchased their tickets in Tumbling Shoals at Parrot Bay Trading Post. Emily says she doesn’t often play the lottery, but decided she’d buy a ticket while she was waiting in line at the store. When she realized that she won, she couldn’t believe it. Her dad was the first person she told about her win, since he’s been playing the lottery for the past decade.
Jessie says he was happy for his daughter when she told him the good news. Jessie has reportedly been to the Claim Center several times, so he had no problem finding the location for his daughter.
Emily says her plans are to use her windfall to pay off student loans and save the rest.
It’s not often we hear about massive wins in Arkansas. In fact, the last big lottery jackpot win was back in April 2017, when the largest lottery jackpot in the state’s history received their check.
Eliberto Cantu arrived with his wife and son to collect his $177 million prize. The 71-year-old was a Texas resident at the time and had purchased his ticket for the March 31, 2017 draw while working on a construction job. The windfall at the time was enough for the family to tick off several bucket list items.
They were still in disbelief having told the media that the win was a blessing that they just couldn’t believe, despite having held the check and posing for pictures.
The Cantus used their win to do some travelling and renovate their home church.
